What BIC is doing in addressing Food Security issues?
BIC is implementing a community empowerment programme in 19 Primary Schools in three sub counties thus , Mpondwe Lhubiriha TC, Karambi and Nyakiyumbu sub counties not limited. Parents have established gardens at school and Parents are replicating good agronomic practices adopted from Schools at community gardens ( selected lead farmers) to address food insecurity and improve performance in primary Schools. Some Schools that planted quick maturing crops have started harvesting. See the photos
Schools that harvested yet, have started providing midday meals to sub candidates and candidates from the harvest in their Schools. Parents, teachers, School leadership and LCBs so far agreed to use the harvest for meals (porridge) to their pupils.
Now this has put a smile on the face of the pupils. See photos below.
CONSERVE THE ENVIRONMENT WITH PLANTING FRUIT TREES IN COMPOUND AND GARDEN PREMISES FOR SHADE AND FRUITS:
Last week BIC arranged its outreach activities, a registered Integrated Rural youth group and member of BIC with its sole purpose of conserving environment together with BIC, organized Environment day at Karambi Sub County. The youth group members participated in planting fruit trees in the sub county compound. See photos below.
